Configural Discourse Analysis
These essays, written between 2004 and 2010, feature different aspects of Configural Discourse Analysis (CfDA)

INTRODUCTION TO CONFIGURAL DISCOURSE ANALYSIS

discusses the various components of CDA. This is not an essay on the "methodology" of CfDA but a prototype of a discourse analysis that focuses comparatively on the narrative structures of various story tellings.

TORTOISE & HARE

is an illustration of configural discourse analysis that examines the narrative structures of analogous tellings of the Aesop fable by comparing them to the oldest prototype of the tale.

WII PROPAGANDA FILMS

is a confirmation of Bassinger's argument that a genre, the Combat Film, was created during WWII to stir support for the war and that the genre continues well into the 1950s. The analysis shows a common narrative structure whose prototype is the film, Bataan.

EVERYTHING IS ILLUMINATED

is a CfDA of inter-cultural communication. It demonstrates the ways that the two main figures in the film are involved in narrative transpositions by adopting each other's discourse.

The Isiah Thomas — Anucha Browne Sanders SEXUAL HARASSMENT TRIAL

is a detailed CfDA of the news stories in five New York papers of one day in the trial. It studies how each reporter builds a different "text-world" (or story world) to represent the events of the trial.

CfDA & FRAMING

Configural Discourse Analysis and Frame Analysis is an essay comparing and contrasting the two modes of discourse analysis.

CBS PROMOS OF NCIS-LA

is an illustration of how configural discourse analysis works using two brief texts in which CBS promoted a new show—NCIS-LA.
