paradigmatic plane

Working Definition:

"Defined by categorizing relationships among structures organixed in schematic netowrks (assemblies of overlapping categorizing units). (The opposite of syntagmatic plane.)

Disciplinary Definitions:

See Langacker, Foundations of Cognitive Grammar, 2.1.5 [Note: Langacker uses the term "schematic plane" but glosses it with "pardigmatic relationships." (492)

Comments:

In "configural analyses" the syntagmatic and paradigmatic planes form an axis.
