Working Definition:
a model is a graphic representation of an experience. (Note, an experience is specified rather than an object to account for models of activities such as reading.)
model of a cognitive process: a flowchart of the stages in specific types of cognition as a sequence of the conditions necessary for a defined outcome.
Disciplinary Definitions:
A "cognitive model" is "the sum of experienced and stored contexts for a certain field by an individual.(Ungerer & Schmid, "An Introduction to Cognitive Linguistics, 1996, 55).
A "cultural model" is a view of the cognitive models highlighting the fact that they are intersubjectively shared by the members of a society or social group." (Ungerer & Schmid, An Introduction to Cognitive Linguistics, 1996, 55)
models are distinguished between models-of (representations that attempt to reflect an experience or object accurately) and models-for (repsentations of possible experiences or objects). Geertz, Interpretation of Cultures, 93-94
