[Note that the terms field, knowledge, and systematic are omitted from this working definition but included in others.]

Disciplinary Definitions:

specialized definitions in the social sciences:

The procedures and techniques characteristic of a particular discipline or field of knowledge. [source??]

specialized definitions in the humanities:

“Methodology plays a large part in his work, but it is not the methodology of natural science. It is the methodology of the human studies, and it is his first concern to insist that the two are different.”  (Hodges, Wilhelm Dilthey: An Introduction, 11)

Comments:

the term, method, is not often used.  Probably it’s most common usage would be in the context of programming where it usually means:  a process performed by an object when it receives a message in object-oriented programming.
