a context is the experiences, past or present, that provide the circumstances in which events (including symbolic actions) occur. The "context of situation" refers to the actual situation as it is comprehended by an individual. The "context of culture" refers to the features of a situation shared by a group who are in some respect unified by the contexts they share.

a cognitive model is the knowledge base associated with the context of situaiton and context of culture.

Disciplinary Definitions:

context is "the cognitive representation of the interaction between cognitive categories (or concepts)" ( 54) and "a context is a mental experience contrasted to a situation which is physical". (Ungerer & Schmid, An Introduction to Cognitive Linguistics, 1996, 46-47)

Comments:

contexts are the experiences, physical or virtual, past or present, which the author and audience need to share for communication to be effective. As in the case of codes, contexts are invariably cultural. Contexts are the times and places that inform communicative situations.
